James Sun is a proven technology entrepreneur with international media experience – hosted his own television show, frequent Tedx speaker, radio show analyst, and magazine publisher.
James Sun’s family immigrated to the United States when he was 3 years old with $35 to their name. They arrived in Los Angeles airport with no money and no contacts, and didn’t even speak the English language. They had to survive through sheer determination, hard work, and hope. As the only Asian-American family in the neighborhood where they settled down, James’s family faced much racism. James can recall moments when their car tires were slashed and racist remarks were painted on their home.
James had his own hit program called “Sun Tzu War on Business” with BBC and CCTV, the world’s largest network in China, which was aired in over 20 countries where he turned around 13 companies in 18 months. James was also the first Asian male to land a spot on Donald Trump’s hit reality show “The Apprentice.” Asian-American men have a very difficult time landing a major role on prime time television in the United States, but James broke this barrier beating out 800,000 applicants and became the only Asian finalist in the history of the show.
Due to his television experience and international look, he has endorsed several international campaigns and companies including Hyundai. James is a highly sought out speaker on the topic of consumer segmentation and diversity especially in the areas of generational differences between the Y, X, and Baby Boomer groups. He has advised over 35 companies on this topic alone including Proctor & Gamble, Deloitte & Touche, JP Morgan, Ernst & Young, BASF, Qwest, Honeywell, US Army, and dozens of top tiered universities. He has even spoken at Ted conferences on the topic of macro and micro consumer trends. He is published in a book titled “Millennial Leaders Y” as an expert in this field. James has been featured on CEO Magazine and Fortune Magazine as a guest blogger on the topics of leadership and entrepreneurship.
He is the founder & CEO of Pirq, a mobile loyalty and payments application for small and medium sized businesses which was successfully acquired by one of the largest payment companies in the U.S. Previous to this, James has built over $250 million dollars of startup enterprise value in 10 years in 3 different continents including an online education venture connecting Chinese students with English teachers.
He was also the co-publisher of Koream magazine, which was an award-winning monthly magazine dedicated to news, commentary, politics, lifestyle and culture published in the United States. It was the oldest and most widely circulated English-language monthly magazine for the Asian American community. He is currently the owner of Dramabeans.com, the highest traffic site bringing Korean drama content to the English-speaking world.
James also has Fortune 500 experience where he served as an engineer at Intel and management consultant at Deloitte Consulting for several Fortune 500 clients including Honeywell, Microsoft, Daimler Chrysler, and Boeing. Previous to Deloitte and Intel, James created a technology investment company called Sun & Associates, at age 18, with $5,000 and turned it into a $2.3 million dollar investment while finishing college with honors.
James graduated Cum Laude with a Computer Information Systems degree from the University of Washington, and he was recently selected in the “Wonderous 100 Alumni Award” (top 100 alumni), which included prominent individuals like Bill Gates Sr. and Kenny G.
